The 6th place in top 10 castles / fortresses in Romania is occupied by Fagaras Fortress, Fagaras.

Fagaras Fortress was originally built as a wooden fortress by László Kan. Later during his Majláth István, in 1539 the fortress was partly rebuilt. After reconstruction of the city has several owners who remember the most important: Baltazar Bath, Michael the Brave, Csáki István Bethlen Gábor. The latter is what shape the present city by building a system of fortifications. Rákóczi György later strengthened this system of fortifications and expanding ordered ditch surrounding the city and later, in 1650 the fortress was renovated in Renaissance style with specific shapes and polygonal towers at colturi. In Century 18 is reinforced with a brick wall system Vauban.

During that belonged to Prince Michael the Brave, Prince family fortress sheltered during the fighting in 1599-1600. Also in his time here he worked Apafi Mihály Transylvanian Diet – an indicator of the importance of this city. But over time the city has worsened and has come to be used as a prison (between 1948-1960), there is imprisoned especially political prisoners.
