
The 9th place in the top 10 castles / fortresses in Romania is occupied by the Citadel of Deva, Deva.
In 1784, during Korea’s revolt, the masters of the fortress had resisted attacks serfdom and miners in the Apuseni Mountains.
It is situated on the hill at the foot of which lies the town of Deva. Under the hill fortress was Magna Curia Palace (now headquarters Dacian and Roman Civilization Museum), built in the sixteenth century bastion looking for. Transformed by Gabriel Bethlen in 1621, Magna Curia acquired an appearance prevailing Baroque in sec. XVIII, when I add a monumental staircase and a balcony contempt park.
The castle was built in the 13th century on a high volcanic neck 184 meters. Is documentary in 1269 under the name of Castrum Deva and was a strong foothold in the fight Ottoman Transylvania. In August 1849 was devastated by a powerful explosion at the ammunition depot. As a result the city was abandoned and today there are only ruins.
